Welcome to the Un-official Website of Lowestoft & Southwold Coastguard Teams
Welcome to the Un-Official Website of the Lowestoft and Southwold Rescue Teams.
Both teams are based on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
With 9 Coastguard Rescue Officers (CRO's) on the Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) and 5 on the Southwold Team. All whom are volunteers, holding down a variety of full time jobs. The Teams are on standby 24/7 alerted by a paging system. Each member is not obliged to attend every job as this simply would not be feasible. However, making a commitment to one of our Teams would mean attending jobs on a regular basis, as well as regular training sessions.
The teams are paged by the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre based in Havenbridge House, Great Yarmouth.
After being alerted by your pager, make your way to the Coastguard Station as soon as possible. A team can be on its way to a job within minutes of being paged, using one or both of our 4 x 4 fully equiped Rescue Vehicles.
Each Team member is trained in a number of Search and Rescue Techniques ie. First Aid, Rope Rescue and Water Rescue.
The service of our existing members ranges from 25 years to just 8 months.
As part of Her Majesty's Coastguard Agency, which is the Emergency Response arm of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, this service has a long and proud history going back to the early 19th century, and earnt great respect for saving many peoples lives.
Over time the techniques, equipment and service we can provide has moved forward. Making us better equiped to carry out our required duties and ultimately save and help those that require our service.
maritime safety and protecting the maritime environment.
